What to check on a Volkswagen T3

These are the known weak points of the T3. Every seller here answers them one by one before their car can go live — so you can compare two cars on the same terms.

Rust at the front panel, floor, wheel arches, gutters and the cargo door frames
Head gaskets on watercooled engines
Cooling system and heater matrix
Gearbox and CV joints, especially on Syncro
Pop-top canvas and roof seals on campers
Syncro viscous coupling and differential locks

Is it genuine? What buyers check on a T3Syncro models have a specific chassis code and a raised floor. Westfalia conversions have their own plate. A camper interior fitted later is not a Westfalia.

The T3 was built between 1979 and 1992, which is why it belongs here: 80s90s.Club lists a car when its generation was in production at any point between 1980 and 1999. A 1979 car and a 1992 car are both welcome; what decides is the generation, never the year on its own.
