1991 Honda NSX 3.0 Manual for Sale — 80,900 km, Original Paint
An exceptionally well-preserved 1991 Honda NSX with 80,900 km, a naturally aspirated 3.0-liter V6 VTEC engine and the highly desirable five-speed manual transmission.
Finished in classic Red and described as retaining its original factory paint, this early first-generation NSX has had just one recorded owner and remains remarkably close to its original specification.
The combination of a mid-mounted engine, rear-wheel drive, manual gearbox and lightweight aluminum construction makes the original NSX one of the most important Japanese performance cars of its generation.
Original Factory Paint
According to the seller, the body remains entirely in its original factory paintwork.
That is particularly noteworthy on an early NSX because aluminum body repair requires specialist knowledge, and many surviving examples have undergone cosmetic refinishing during their lives.
The vivid Red exterior emphasizes the NSX’s low nose, cab-forward cockpit and compact mid-engine proportions without relying on excessive styling.
Rather than presenting as a restored car, this example’s appeal lies in its reported preservation.
3.0-Liter VTEC V6 and Five-Speed Manual
At the center of the NSX is Honda’s C30A 3.0-liter naturally aspirated V6 DOHC VTEC engine.
Japanese-market manual cars were rated at 280 PS, with the engine capable of operating at exceptionally high speeds for a production road-car V6 of the period.
The five-speed manual gearbox is especially significant because it preserves the direct, mechanical character for which early NSXs are known.
Mounted behind the passenger compartment and driving the rear wheels, the compact V6 forms the heart of the NSX’s mid-engine layout.
Revolutionary Aluminum Construction
The first-generation NSX was technologically ambitious even by supercar standards.
Honda developed what became the world’s first mass-production all-aluminum monocoque automobile, using the material extensively to reduce weight while retaining the structural rigidity required for a high-performance sports car.
Honda also used aluminum suspension components and a sophisticated double-wishbone arrangement at all four corners.
These engineering decisions helped create a sports car that combined precise handling with a level of usability and refinement that was unusual in the segment at the beginning of the 1990s.
Ayrton Senna and the NSX Development Story
Ayrton Senna’s connection to the NSX is genuine, although it is more accurately described as development feedback rather than saying he personally developed the car.
While testing a prototype at Suzuka in February 1989, Senna told Honda engineers that the chassis felt insufficiently rigid.
Honda subsequently intensified development and Nürburgring testing, eventually increasing chassis rigidity by approximately 50 percent compared with the pre-testing specification.
That episode became one of the best-known chapters in the development history of the original NSX.
A Preserved Early NSX
This car retains much of the equipment and atmosphere that defined the original-generation model.
The cabin combines leather upholstery with straightforward driver-focused controls, while period conveniences such as automatic climate control, power windows and the original-style radio and cassette system make the car much more usable than many contemporary mid-engine sports cars.
Its condition, one-owner history and reported original paint make this example particularly interesting for someone seeking an early NSX that has not been heavily modified or restored.
